Don't Wait Until You Need CPR

Hey ladies!
It’s February already! Can someone please tell me what happened to January! Wow! So here we are, February, the month of love. Some are preparing for Valentine’s Day with candy and flowers for that special someone or spending time with a love one. Also the first Friday in February is designated as “National Wear Red Day” as a symbol of support for women who suffer from heart disease. This a great time to pause and raise awareness of heart disease and the health effects on all women as well as support local fundraising events or become an advocate for the movement.

When thinking of heart disease most are reminded of the process of CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) when one has gone into cardiac arrest where there is a sudden loss of blood flow and the heart stops. The CPR process is used to re-initiate blood flow and revive one who has stopped breathing and loss consciousness. As women there are circumstances in life when our hearts STOP! We become heartbroken because of a breakup, a loved one dies, work has us down, ministry has us stressed, we’re aging, we’re changing, our money is funny, I could go on and on. Sometimes it can be as simple as just being plain tired. Just as a diseased heart’s electrical system malfunctions, our emotional heart stops. Our passion, love, affection, enthusiasm, courage, feelings...just stop! You find yourself in need of an emotional CPR!

While we are still fresh in the new year, let’s be proactive as we would for our physical heart and get some medication. Let’s take steps now to treat our emotional conditions now! Don’t wait until your heart needs resuscitation!

Let’s start by examining your spiritual life. Do you have one? Do you pray, do you meditate; do you align yourself with other believers? Who is your circle? What is your outlet (i.e. dancing, sports, girls’ nights, spa day, etc.)? Now pull out your calendar and schedule some “me” time (I know better said than done!). These are some ideas ladies to “medicate” in a good way. Just like with real medication, what works for one person might not work for the other, you have to determine what works for you.

So don’t wait until your emotional heart stops and you are in need of CPR…do a heart check-up now and keep your heart (emotional heart) strong and healthy!

Prayer: Lord, protect our emotional hearts.
Help us as women to stay revived and renewed.
We put our trust in You to guard our hearts and to not need emotional CPR.
Thank you for being our Light and our Protector.
Amen
