Can’t See for Looking
We all have
had a moment where we were looking for something that was right there before us
but we were so consumed with looking for the item that we didn’t look in the
obvious places. I remember once my grandma was looking for her glasses. She
looked and looked, had us looking too. Low and behold, they were on her head
the entire time. Funny but frustrating, right? Doesn’t life get that way
sometimes?
There are
times when we treat life the same way. At some point in life we set
expectations about who we want to be and the things we want to do in life. We
tell ourselves what to expect out of life and wait for those things to happen
yesterday. When the path does not travel the way we anticipate or life throws
us curve balls then we are quick to seek AND be mad with God. “Lord you said I
am the head and not the tail, you said you would give me the desires of my
heart, but God where is my promotion, where is my spouse, where is, where IS,
WHERE IS! “Oh yes we get mad in a big way with God when life seems dim. Since God
knows all and sees all and already knows what I need and desire, why hasn’t he done
it already? The problem is, we can’t “see for looking” (as the old folks use to
say). We can’t see what God is doing
because we are so busy looking for God to do something.
This is
where we find the prophet Habakkuk in Chapter 1. He is surrounded by the
nation’s turmoil and despite his many pleas to God, he feels God has failed
him. God tells him to have faith and to look at what He has done and is doing.
He assures Habakkuk that He has not forgotten about them and He is preparing
and doing more than Habakkuk could ever imagine if he would only have faith,
trust God, and be patient. God’s answer wasn’t enough for Habakkuk, almost
short of just not liking what God had to say, but isn’t that how we treat God?
We ask God for an answer and He gives it to us but because we don’t like what
He had to say or how His plan manifests, we go back, as if His answer is going
to change. Chapter 2 verse 1 we see where God tells Habakkuk to write down what
He tells Him and watch His promises manifest at an appointed time. God
encourages Habakkuk to be patient and His word will be fulfilled. God explains
to Habakkuk how He is going to use the evil and economic hardships to turn
things around.
Just like
God told Habakkuk, a church sister taught me about the prophetic word and how
we should write down and date that which is truly prophesied unto us. I did not
know anything about prophetic worship as I was not raised that way, but how
else are we to follow and understand God’s promises for our lives…
1. Write down that which you desire.
2. Talk with God and not at God. Fast,
prayer, meditate on the word. Ask God guide your path. Ironically enough he is
already doing it but he wants to know that you trust Him with the plans He has
for your life.
3. Journal when and what God speaks to
you. Reflect, pray, and meditate on those promises as a means of hope and
encouragement.
4. Don’t dismiss the dismissible! The
events that happen around you, the people that are being blessed before you, are
all apart of God’s plan for our lives. Do not dismiss these things because things
are not happening for you at that time. Instead rejoice and celebrate with and
for other women in their successes.
5. Praise in Advance! No explanation
needed.
So ladies, be encouraged on today that God has not forgotten about
you! Your job is coming; your spouse is coming! Children, good health, better
finances…IT’S COMING! It might not seem that way because sometimes we are so
focused on looking for the big answer that we can’t see God’s little answers
along the way!
Prayer:
God we seek patience and guidance as women of God as You
fulfill Your promises in our lives. Please grant us the ability rejoice with
our fellow sisters as you manifest in their lives. We praise in you in advance
for fulfilling Your plan for our lives.
In Jesus name, Amen.
In Jesus name, Amen.
